5. Greens House

The original building dates from the 1550s, and the older part is in the centre of the house, identifiable by big “butted” stones not bonded into other stone-work.

Turn left, walk past Green’s Cottage, a farm house built in 1648, and bear right to pass through a gate on a roller-wheel to enter a track within dry-stone walls, and at the finger-post take the path ahead marked “Stanage via North Lees”. At the end of the walled track bear diagonally right and walk 100m towards a wide gate with a stone stile to its right; continue on this path to another gate with a wooden stile on its right in a boundary wall; walk down the stony track towards the site of Green’s Mill, a path to the left leads to the mill pond and dam, whilst the track continues down into the mill yard.
