Intro. Cut ‘n’ Coal Trail.

Introduction.

Welcome to the ’Cut ‘n’ Coal trail, which is 2 miles (3.4 Km) long, and takes about 1 hour following canal towpaths and public access footpaths, – most walking is on fairly level well-trodden ground, with one medium gradient uphill section. The route can be muddy in places and slippery on steps under damp conditions, and it is advisable to wear sturdy footwear; as the trail is near to canals and lakes, please supervise children carefully.

The tour visits features related to canals, railways, coal extraction, iron processing, and medieval field systems. This is a conservation area for plants and animals and home to wildlife; please try not to disturb geese, ducks and swans especially those with young, and keep dogs on a lead.
